In 1993, the Down East Partnership for Children (DEPC), a
non-profit organization, was created to build a new model of services to support families and children in Nash and Edgecombe Counties.
What DEPC Believes
We believe that all children and their families can reach their full potential when surrounded by a united and supportive community.
To achieve this vision, DEPC believes that:
- Our ability to effectively compete in the 21st century depends on our success at educating all of our children regardless of race, class, income or ability.
- The work of building “ready children” begins with their parents before birth and that the distinct period through age 8 is a unique phase of development that is key to children’s later success.
- “Ready communities,” “ready schools”, and “ready families” are key to successfully educating all children.
- “Ready communities” are committed to a culture of learning and to ensuring that all children are successful.
- A wide range of community leaders must subscribe to this vision of quality early education, leaders that cross the divides of class, race, culture, county and sector.
- The system of early childhood education for 0 to 8 must equitably include all providers and agencies, from stay-at-home parents to formal school programs.
There is a role for everyone to play in helping successfully launch all children as healthy, lifelong learners. Find out what you can do!
